Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva 2016: the grapes for this wine are picked at the perfect balance of sugar and acidity. After a short maceration on the skins, the must is fermented in 700 litre barrels, where it then matures for over 18 months. The nose has notes of citrus, peach and apple, with a touch of vanilla. The flavours are very rich, fresh, balanced and persistent. A good match for fried or grilled fish and seafood, pasta, vegetarian dishes, cured meats and medium-aged cheeses.
Rugiada del Mattino Colli Tortonesi DOC 2016: made from Timorasso, a little-known indigenous grape variety producing fine, full-bodied white wines that age well. Straw-yellow colour, vibrant floral, apple nose and savoury nutty palate. Serve with vegetarian dishes, spaghetti, risotto, seafood, white meat or medium-aged goat’s cheeses.
Bron & Ruseval Romagna Sangiovese Riserva DOC: 2016 was a magnificent vintage in Romagna, showing great balance and elegance. This wine, made from grapes from the east-north-east-facing Maestrina vineyards, has a perfect balance of sugar, acid, fragrance and intensity. This wine goes nicely with grilled red meat, small game and poultry such as guinea-fowl, duck and pigeon.
Vigna di Sopra Fara Riserva DOC 2012: Fara is one of the most prestigious appellations of Piedmont, though less well-known in Britain. Wine has been made in the villages of Fara and Briona since mediaeval times and was much prized for its spicy sour-cherry flavour, elegance and length. This example is multi award-winning and would be good to drink now or to age for 10 or more years. Goes well with beef, lamb, veal, rabbit, game and pasta with truffle.
Confusion Marche Rosso IGT 2012 Organic: the 4 Bordeaux varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) meet on the hills of the Marche to produce a complex and intense red wine that amazes from the first taste. Complex on the nose, with aromas of berries, red fruits, spices, pepper and an intense balsamic note. Well balanced, soft and long-lasting on the palate. Tis wine goes well with seasoned cold cuts, game, spicy meats and blue cheese. Excellent as an accompaniment to 90% dark chocolate.
Carillon Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013: An award-winning wine, made from 100% Sangiovese. Classically elegant with notes of tobacco, smoke and mushroom, powerful, full-bodied, well-structured, with supple tannins and fresh racy acidity. A good accompaniment to meat or sauce based dishes, game, strong, mature cheeses such as Parmesan or Pecorino.
