Augusta Barbera Asti Superiore DOCG 2013


Augusta comes from Barbera grapes planted at around 300 metres above sea level in Penango, in thin calcareous soils on south-facing slopes. The grapes are hand-picked early in October, following a green harvest in August to reduce the number of grape clusters and concentrate the remaining grapes.

Area of production: Asti, Piedmont

Producer: Azienda Agricola Alemat

Grape variety: Barbera 100%

Vinification: fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28°C, maceration for 12-15 days before pressing; maloalactic fermentation follows at a temperature of 20°C.

Maturation: in big oak barrels for about 18 months, followed by 4 -6 months in bottle.

Alcohol content: 14% abv


Appearance: deep ruby red with violet tones.

Nose: ripe red and black cherry, prunes, complex with a hint of spice and vanila.

Palate: full-bodied, intense, deep, with mature fruit and a lightly spicy finish.

Food pairing: pasta with meat and tomato sauces, pizza, meat dishes, medium-aged cheese.

Serving temperature: 16 - 18 °C.
