Ghemme DOCG 2009


The wine's quality comes from both the stony soil of the vineyard and the careful viticulture, which follows environmentally-friendly practices. Excess grapes are removed before ripening, giving the remaining crop and the resulting wine more concentration.

Area of production: Piedmont, historical hills of Ghemme

Producer: Azienda Agricola Codecasa

Grape variety: Nebbiolo 100%

Exposure: south-east, south

Altitude: 300 metres above sea level

Vinification: alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks with 20 days of maceration followed by malolactic fermentation.

Maturation method: at least 18 months' ageing in 50 hl barrels of French oak followed by 24 months' bottle-ageing.

Alcohol content: 13,5% abv


Appearance: garnet red.

Nose: ripe dark fruit, crushed violet, a touch of exotic spice and a balsamic note.

Palate: austere tannins support mature black cherry, dried tobacco and mouthfuls of liquorice, big style, modern and polished.

Food pairing: beef, lamb, veal, rabbit, game, pasta with truffle.

Serving temperature: 16 - 18°C.
