Vigna di Sopra Fara Riserva DOC 2012

Fara is one of the most prestigious appellations of Piedmont, though less well-known in Britain. Wine has been made in the villages of Fara and Briona since mediaeval times and was much prized for its spicy sour-cherry flavour, elegance and length.

This example is multi award-winning and would be good to drink now or to age for 10 or more years. 

 Area of production: Colline Novaresi, Piedmont

Producer: Vigneti Valle Roncati

Grape Variety: 70% Nebbiolo, 20% Vespolina, 10% Uva Rara

Soil: glacial and alluvial

Fermentation: traditional fermentation on the skins

Maturation:  30-36 months in various-sized French (Allier) oak barrels

Alcohol content: 14% abv

Bottle size: 750 ml

ORGANOLEPTIC PROFILE:

Appearance: garnet red

Nose: notes of liquorice, violet and spices

Palate: velvety tannins, flavours of blood-orange, violet, sour cherry; elegant, long finish. Decant an hour before drinking to let it open up fully. Ages well (10+ years).

Food pairings: A good match for wild boar, venison, artichokes and other strongly-flavoured dishes, sharp cheeses

Service temperature: 18°-20°C
